The Cattleya Walkeriana 'Extravagance' × 'Couto' (AM/AOS) is a highly sought-after, compact-growing orchid cross between two exceptional Brazilian walkeriana cultivars. It is prized for its symmetrical, brightly colored flowers, heavy substance, and signature spicy-sweet fragrance.
Both parent clones are celebrated in the orchid community. 'Couto' holds an Award of Merit from the American Orchid Society (AM/AOS). Crossing it with 'Extravagance' yields blooms with intense, saturated color, wide, flat petals, and a striking lip.
Prefers bright, filtered light. High light is crucial for blooming Walkeriana. Provide a distinct wet-and-dry cycle. Water thoroughly, but ensure the potting media dries out completely between waterings.
Because they have specific root sensitivities, they do best when mounted on cork, tree fern, or potted in a very coarse, fast-draining mix (such as chunky bark or lava rock) in net pots or clay pots.
